Why website builders are sh*t!

As more and more entrepreneurs, artists, influencers and businesses start to build their digital presence in a lockdown world. More and more keep getting caught short.

If you’re building a website. Don’t fall for ease of use & quickness. Think long term development, user experience, functionality, analytics, data and growth. And No. It doesn’t have to break the bank.

Here’s a breakdown of why website builders like WIX, Weebly and Squarespace are SH*T.

1. Expensive

These sites advertise themselves as simple, quick and easy. While also offering various packages, subscriptions and ‘upgrades’. The reality is – compounded over time, they are rather expensive for what they are and you get little in return.

2. Poor SEO

One of the worst parts of using any website builder is the lack of SEO control. They’re unstructured and don’t contain the necessary elements to rank better in Google.

3. Lack of Site Structure & Data

Every single site owner (from portfolios to start-ups) should care about data and good site structure.

When your site is organised correctly and nicely. This makes Google and other search engines rather happy. Again, helping your SEO rankings.

But, also knowing what’s happening on your site is really important for evolving you and your brand. You need to be tracking with core analytic data and gaining key insights!

4. Not CMS Based

CMS systems are ridiculously powerful tools. They help manage the entirety of the website and its content. You have FULL control over your files, data, design and documents.

There’s a reason why 38% of websites are built on CMS systems like WordPress.

If you decide to use a website builder, you are creating static HTML web pages. These are no match to any CMS system.

5. Brand Devaluation

This shouldn’t be surprising. But, it’s not really thought about.

If you use a website builder like WIX. You’ll use one of their 500 or so templates. They also have over 150 million users. It’s not complicated but…

– 150,000,000 / 500 templates = 300,000

That means 300,000 people are most likely using your template and creating similar designs. This can really harm your brand value and identity. Especially, when you want your brand to grow and stand out in an already crowded web space.

6. You're stuck with it!

Let’s say your brand evolves (and you obviously want this to happen?).

You’ll want your site to become more powerful and be able to understand deep analytics, improve SEO, track data and maybe even gain further management tools.

And… unless you’re site is on a CMS system. There’s little chance you’ll be able to mitigate your hosts easily without any website interruption.

Solution?

There are multiple design agencies (including ourselves) that will create you a unique and powerful website that’s built for GROWTH on various CMS systems.

Contrary to belief, they don’t cost much more (and in some cases – less) than your average website builder (that’s compounded over time via subscription and upgrades).

If you would like an engaging website that’s built for GROWTH.
